We’ve all heard the term made famous by the G.I. Joe’s cartoon series in the mid 1980’s, “Knowing is half the battle.” It might sound silly coming from a cartoon, but there is a lot of truth to it.
You can buy food storage and preparedness items all you want, but until you either know how to use them or you have books in your home that can eventually teach you, you are only halfway there.
It can be pretty intimidating to think about every thing you’d need to learn to survive every possible disaster. Just take it one step at a time.
I have put together what I think are the most important survival skills below. Each category goes much deeper than you’d think, so find the one that interests you the most, and get started.
I’d also recommend you buy some survival books (listed out in the Entertainment and Education category) so that you have them in your home just in case the next emergency you experience takes out your power.
